Antonina is a passionate advocate of Non-Directive Child-Centred Therapy. Her approach to Play Therapy is gentle and respectful of the child. She believes in building trusting, empathic and reciprocal relationships with children in therapy. She aims to allow the right level of permissiveness combined with gentle limit setting to create an environment that is safe for the child to process what is needed. She specialises in working with young children with anxiety, trauma, fears, sleep disturbances, anger and behavioural issues.
Antonina recognises the importance of supporting parents in their involvement in therapy with their children and in the intergenerational future of integrating Child Parent Relationship Therapy (filial therapy) training of parents so they become therapeutic agents to their own children. This year she is working on a thesis researching Filial Therapy integration with Mindfulness training to address both child and parental anxiety.
The scholars that were most inspiring throughout the years of Antonina’s involvement in Play Therapy are Garry Landreth, the author of ‘Play Therapy; the Art of the Relationship’ and Bruce Perry, the founder of Neuro-Sequential model of Therapy. Her most influential practicing Play Therapists to date are her Supervisors Donna Berry, the International Educator of Child Centred Play Therapy and Director of Play Therapy Australia, and lecturers at CDU Dr Carmen Cubillo and Joanne Wicks.
Antonina also has an interest in including animals in therapy with children and has undergone thorough training with Rise VanFleet, the founder of Animal Assisted Play Therapy. She is currently working towards International Certification in AAPT.
